Mapping Water Treatment Technologies Used in West and North Africa

Share this:

Treatment of wastewater in West and North Africa is mainly concentrated in major urban areas. Nigeria wastewater treatment is mainly done in Lagos and Abuja, the main economic hubs. Major wastewater treatment technologies found in Ghana include stabilisation ponds, trickling filters, and activated sludge plants. Morocco uses advanced treatment technologies, e.g., activated sludge and oxidation ponds. Algeria mainly uses activated sludge sewage treatment plants and stabilization ponds. Growing populations and increased economic activity are expected to increase wastewater recycling.
