Electro Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) Test Equipment and Services Market in China - Drivers and Restraints

Published: 11 Jul 2012

By Wei Wei, Research Analyst, Test & Measurement, Frost & Sullivan

The overall EMC test equipment and services market in China offers tremendous opportunities for equipment vendors as well as testing services companies in the years to come.

Typical EMC test and measurement equipment includes EMI receivers, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, amplifiers, antennas, field strength monitors, calibration equipment, filters, and other miscellaneous accessories. Multinational test equipment vendors are the major participants in this business segment.

The testing services market segment, on the other hand, is highly fragmented. Numerous third-party testing and certification laboratories have been established in China and are providing testing services to customers. They are successful in enhancing their business in specific areas or niche market segments.

During the forecast period, various factors are expected to affect market demand. A few key drivers and restraints are provided below.

Enforcement of EMC Compliance Regulations and Standards

The Chinese administration offices are using advanced international standards as a reference when designing and implementing EMC compliance standards and this is boosting demand for EMC test equipment and services. For example, the main sources of China's civilian EMC standards include CISPR (Special international committee on radio interference) publication and the IEC 61000 standard series developed by the International Electrotechnical Commission/Technical Committee 77. Likewise, China's military EMC standards are based on U.S. military standards and the accreditation system of the National Defense Industry Laboratories Accreditation Committee (DILAC). Moreover, the China Compulsory Certification (CCC) system has been established to make manufacturers more conscious of the obligation of designing and producing devices that do not create electromagnetic interference pollution. Enforcement of the regulations and standards mentioned above is expected to boost the growth of the EMC test equipment and service business throughout the forecast period.
