Latin America as a key market to NCR
Recently, I had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Elias Rogério da Silva, Brazilian president of NCR, one of the global leaders in the automated teller machines market.
Due to the saturation of this market on developed economies such as North America and Europe, NCR is strongly focusing on emerging economies such as Latin America where there is still a vast addressable market to be explored and where substitute payment systems are not yet fully consolidated to replace cash (specially for small transactions). Furthermore, the company is already prepared to offer all kinds of solutions for the contact between consumers and retailers such as digital signage and e-commerce.
Completing just one year of the manufacturing facility in Brazil, NCR closed 2010 achieving a production superior 33% of what was predicted for the year. From the total produced, 34% was addressed to attend the Brazilian market. 19% of the total production was exported to Mexico, 15% to Argentina, 12 to Chile, 10% to Colombia, 3% to Peru and the remaining 7% to regional distributors.
After a two digits growth on revenues in Brazil, NCR has aggressive growth plans for 2011. Within its main growth strategies, we can mention:
-continuing investments on its facility in Brazil and on sustainable green projects;
-focus on self service systems in the retail market in Brazil;
-self service systems on other verticals such as tourism and healthcare.
