Competitive Intelligence
Discovers Barcelona

During the last few months, Frost & Sullivan and SCIP have gone from São Paulo to Singapore and Barcelona, where competitive intelligence professionals from around the globe gathered to discuss the current state of strategy and CI, and what the future would likely be for their collective firms. The 15th annual SCIP conference in Barcelona continues to be the largest annual gathering of CI professionals in Europe, with representatives from 22 different countries and a broad cross section of the multinational firms represented.

A mix of workshops, interactive sessions and presentations, the conference touched on a broad range of subjects. Two keynote speakers, Milgros Rivas from Acciona, and Mario Sanchez Moreno from the Spanish High Council of Chambers of Commerce, both spoke of CI's role in growing the corporate sector. All parties in this relationship take a strategic view of the opportunities for growth and use CI as a tool to facilitate governmental support in creating new markets. For example, Acciona was supported in its move into the green energy market, particularly wind power generation.

This energy theme was carried through the conference in another form — attendees were energized and actively participated throughout the conference, including the last session in which they enthusiastically endorsed Vienna as the venue for SCIP’s 2011 European conference. This promises to be another special event.
