Kuala Lumpur, Sept 11, 2006 – Schenker Logistics Malaysia Sdn Bhd has been named Best Automotive Logistics Service Provider in Malaysia by Frost & Sullivan, a global growth consulting company.
The award was conferred to Schenker Logistics Malaysia recently at the 2006 Frost & Sullivan ASEAN 4 Logistics Awards based on a Voice of the Customer research, which was officiated by Mr. Ko Kheng Hwa, Managing Director of the Singapore Economic Development Board.
Mr. Kavan Mukhtyar Director of Transportation, Asia Pacific at Frost & Sullivan says Schenker has emerged as the winner among the logistics service providers in the Malaysian automotive sector, as it secured the highest ratings for its service performance and capability from its own customers in the sector.
“Schenker has been rated very highly by its customers on performance related to industry expertise, range and quality of services, commitment to customer needs, and ability of customizing the services. The company has also achieved high ratings from its customers on performance related to security of goods, speed and consistency of service, network reach, and transaction management efficiency,” he adds.
Mr. Mukhtyar notes that Schenker is one of the leading international providers of integrated logistics services, providing support in land operations, world-wide air and sea freight, and in all the associated logistics services, for a wide range of industry sectors worldwide.
He says that automotive is one of the key contributing sectors for Schenker, adding that the company operates as a partner for its automotive clients by providing a supply chain management solution that offers the customer door-to-door service.
Mr. Mukhtyar says that in the last decade, Malaysia has emerged as a leading manufacturing and marketing destination for the automotive industry.
He adds that annual production of vehicles in the country has also doubled within the last 10 years, making Malaysia the second largest automotive manufacturer in the ASEAN region.
Malaysia also has about 50 per cent share of the ASEAN passenger vehicles market in 2005.
Apart from the local companies such as Proton, Perodua, Naza and Inokom, most of the world’s leading companies in this sector have established significant operations in Malaysia.
Mr. Mukhtyar says that the Malaysian government has major plans to provide all the needed impetus to expand the size and scope of its automotive sector in the next decade, mainly focused on exports, which is expected to create significant opportunities (mainly export related out-bound logistics) for logistics service providers.
Mr. Mukhtyar says that the increasing penetration of foreign automotive manufacturers in the Malaysian market is also expected to create significant import related (in-bound logistics) opportunities for the logistics service providers.
In addition, the government is also encouraging an active participation of domestic and multinational logistics service providers in creating an integrated logistics infrastructure for the automotive sector. All these developments would mean that automotive industry sector would continue to become more attractive and leading revenue contributor for the logistics service providers in Malaysia.
