Kuala Lumpur, May 25, 2007 -- Global growth consulting company, Frost & Sullivan has selected Genico® 3G Pocketsports as the 2007 Most Innovative Application/Product of the Year in Malaysia. The application, which is expected to be deployed in Malaysia this quarter, has already been successfully introduced and well-received in the Middle East.
The award was conferred to the developer of the application, NGC Systems, the research and development arm of DVM Technology Berhad, at the 2007 Frost & Sullivan Malaysia Telecoms Awards which was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Energy, Water and Communications, Dato’ Shaziman Abu Mansor.
Genico® 3G Pocketsports was selected following a rigorous process in which Frost & Sullivan and a panel of independent judges representing leaders in the telecommunications industry in Malaysia evaluated the short listed products and applications in this category.
The award recognizes the most compelling and exciting first-of-its-kind application/product in Malaysia that has the ability to create a disruption and make a difference in the industry. The contenders of this award were benchmarked on uniqueness of concept, impact on traditional products and services, market potential/sustainability, market adoption and acceptance, and contribution to revenues and growth of the company.
Genico® 3G Pocketsports is a circuit-based streaming application that delivers 3G video sports solutions to 3G subscribers. It has built-in advanced features such as ‘Match Talk’ and ‘Locker Room’ which allow users to share their favourite sports moments with their friends and family while viewing a match, as well as store and share video clips.
Users of this solution are able to seamlessly interact with the application using the DTMF (dual-tone multi-frequency) keypads on handsets to send commands. The service is easily accessible by dialing a common number, adding to its user-friendly properties.
Sin Siew Teyew, director of telecoms at Frost & Sullivan, says, “Applications are successful because of the rich user experience. Genico® 3G Pocketsports delivers innovative solutions over a simplified user interface.
“It also comes at the right time when the industry is looking for a mix of applications to drive the 3G market beyond just connectivity,” he adds.
Genico® 3G Pocketsports runs on HP OpenCall carrier-grade platforms, which enables user-centric, personalized and content-rich multimedia services to allow service providers to grow revenues, reduce costs and increase loyalty, while optimizing their business outcomes. Leveraging this platform, Genico® 3G Pocketsports connects and enhances 3G subscribers’ experiences by delivering a wide variety of services flexibly and reliably.
Adding to its appeal, the solution is not handset-make dependent, functioning on all 3G handset terminals. Built on an open platform, Genico® 3G PocketSeries services can also be extended to other types of value-added services such as video portal, video mobile advertising, mobile TV, video blogging, video dating, video contest, video voting and video call centers - offering compelling value propositions to a wide community of users.
Commenting on the award, Owen Chen, President of NGC Systems, said: “We are honoured to receive number one market ranking for product innovation by Frost & Sullivan. This inspiring recognition to Genico® 3G Pocketsports indicates the degree of innovation paving way for a new breed of 3G solutions for operators and service providers to make new streams of revenue and good results.”
“The solution is well-positioned to take advantage of the introduction of HSDPA and WiMAX services given the high-speed wireless transmission capabilities of these technologies, and is expected to gain acceptance as 3G gathers momentum in Malaysia,” says Teyew.
Given its success in Southeast Asia, NGC Systems has plans to launch the solution in Europe which has a larger 3G subscriber base.
