EMRs can essentially be categorized into template-based electronic records or no-template electronic records. Template-based solutions are highly structured. The Praxis® EMR has an edge over template programming because its Concept Processing technology is dynamic and develops naturally, whereas template programming is static and inherently limiting. Although templates do allow for quick and easy documentation, they restrict the physician from expressing the details that will maintain the integrity of the physician’s interaction with each patient. While the regulatory agencies call them electronic health records (EHR), the term Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is used by many in healthcare. EHR or EMR is simply a matter of preference.
