This Frost & Sullivan research service titled Strategic Analysis of the Southeast Asian Construction Adhesives Market provides market size and forecast, technological insights, product segmentation, and future trends. In this research, Frost & Sullivan's expert analysts thoroughly examine the following markets: ceramic-tile flooring adhesives, wooden flooring adhesives, carpet adhesives, rubber-flooring adhesives, and stone-flooring adhesives. Market Overview Booming Construction Industry in Southeast Asia Lays the Base for Construction Adhesives’ Growth As the fortunes of the construction adhesives market are closely linked to the construction industry’s, a boom in the latter will resonate in the former. Vietnam experienced a spurt in housing construction in 2011, when nearly 80 million square metres of flooring was built. Indonesia is also constructing numerous commercial buildings such as hospitals, libraries, offices and housing buildings. Indonesia’s population was more than 242 million in 2011 but has less square metres of flooring constructed than Malaysia and Singapore, which despite their lower population, had built numerous high-rise buildings, malls, and convention centres. Thailand is also well developed with cities such as Bangkok having more sophisticated constructions. “The construction industry uses a wide variety of materials such as cement, glass, wood and metals and adhesives have to bond these diverse materials,” says the analyst of this research. “Adhesives used in roofing applications have to withstand harsh environments such as hurricanes and extreme temperatures, while adhesives used for woodwork in flooring need to support load, and work in an atmosphere where temperature fluctuations are constant.” Both ceramic tile adhesives and stone-flooring adhesives use cementitious or polymer-modified cementitious adhesives and therefore, are the largest market segments. Owing to the hot and tropical climatic conditions in Southeast Asia, the markets for rubber and carpet flooring adhesives, which are latex modified or polyurethane adhesives, are smaller. However, wooden flooring, which uses these expensive polyurethane or latex polymer based adhesives, is popular in the more advanced countries such as Singapore and Malaysia. “The Singapore and Malaysian markets show a preference for eco-friendly products,” notes the analyst. “Adhesives with low volatile organic compounds are finding higher uptake as large construction companies often aim for green certifications.”
