Although Malaysia’s mobile penetration grew from 134.5% in 2011 to 143.7% in 2016, mobile penetration has been on a decline since 2014 as a result of the introduction of GST in 2015. By 2021, mobile penetration is expected to have dropped to 135.6% with mobile subscribers amounting to 44.8 million subscribers. The market is still predominantly prepaid with 77.1% of subscribers utilizing prepaid services from Malaysian mobile service providers. Prepaid ARPU is at $7.60 and is higher than most Southeast Asian countries with exception of Singapore. Postpaid subscriptions are on the rise with growth recorded mainly by the smaller mobile service providers. The tracker provides details of Malaysian's mobile service providers and offers detailed historical and forecast data for the 2011-2021 period.
