Smart cities, as defined by Frost & Sullivan, have eight smart parameters: sub-segments of smart energy, smart mobility, smart buildings, smart infrastructure, smart technology, smart healthcare, smart governance, and smart citizens. A smart city, as the term suggests, is indeed sitting on a foundation of sensor-ridden infrastructure and piles of data shared across an integrated city platform. Although the smart city industry propagates a single, shared platform, there would be multiple clusters and layers of data and information sitting at various levels across these eight parameters, thereby creating multiple intelligent services and applications for citizens. This article seeks to connect the overlay between such smart city infrastructure and its impact on innovation in the Fintech industry.
