Published: 18 Aug 2017

The thermoelectric generation (TEG) sector is undergoing a transition phase, with new stakeholders adopting new materials and developing power output modules. This is further supported by a number of ongoing research initiatives led by research labs and universities focused on organic and hybrid materials for low-temperature and low-power TEG modules. This issue of High-Tech Materials TOE focuses on the recent developments in the thermoelectric materials with focus on both high- and low-temperature applications. It focuses on industrial TEG modules based on manganese silicide, silicon germanium, calcium cobalt oxide, and also on doped tetrathiotetracene that can be used for low-temperature energy harvesting. This issue also covers drivers and challenges for the TEG market along with the recent funding and acquisitions to gain a better understanding of the TEG market. The High-Tech Materials TechVision Opportunity Engine (TOE) provides intelligence on technologies, products, processes, applications, and strategic insights on various materials across industries. Some material technologies include lightweight materials, bio–based materials, ceramics, smart materials, fibers, nanomaterials, responsive materials, polymers, woven and non woven materials, polymers and plastics and packaging materials. The Chemicals and Advanced Materials cluster tracks research and innovation trends and developments across specialty chemicals, plastics, polymers, chemicals, bio-chemicals, metals, coatings, thinfilms, surface treatments, composites, alloys, oil and gas, fuel additives, fibers, and several other related technologies and its impact and application across industries. Keywords: Thermoelectric generation, energy harvesting, hybrid TEG materials, organic TEG materials, cobalt oxide, silicon germanium, manganese silicide
