|Frost & Sullivan Press Release||Published: 7 Jan 2009|
The 2008 Frost & Sullivan Award for Company of the Year in the global rail market is presented to Bombardier Transportation for demonstrating excellence in providing a range of outstanding products and services that satisfy customer needs. Backed by improvements in external and internal objectives, Bombardier Transportation has successfully positioned itself not merely as a provider of products, but that of overall solutions. The company offers a full range of solutions spanning rolling stock, complete transit systems, propulsions, rail control products, bogies and services.
"Bombardier has acquired global leadership within the rail market, repeatedly exceeding a market share of 20 per cent in 2007," says Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Patrick Rehlein. "Design, development and manufacturing of rolling stock portfolio at competitive rates have underpinned the company's corporate success. In addition to cost-effective modularisation concepts, Bombardier Transportation offers a broad range of effective customisation options."
Bombardier's key competitive advantage is its manufacturing expertise and its passenger rolling stock product portfolio comprising all train types and major subsystems. The company offers a wide range of solutions covering urban mass transport to very high speed applications.
"Services and rail control solutions are businesses promoting further growth and offering promise of future development," concludes Rehlein. "The successful implementation of a performance improvement agenda has significantly increased the company's overall achievement potential, while boosting the quality of the order backlog."
The Frost & Sullivan Award for Company of the Year is presented each year to the company that has demonstrated unparalleled excellence within its industry. The Award is based on numerous factors including the company's business development, competitive strategy, customer satisfaction, and leadership within a particular Frost & Sullivan Industry Research Group (IRG).
The company must offer high quality products and/or services and have a positive social and economic impact on local and national communities. Its customer service offerings and performance are expected to be of very high caliber. The company should also have proven expertise in taking advantage of market changes by capturing and solidifying market presence, or through execution of innovative strategies within the existing competitive landscape.
Bombardier Transportation is perceived to exhibit outstanding management and consistent growth. A good example of how Bombardier combines individuality and efficiency is its BOMBARDIER TRAXX product family. Rehlein stated: "In 2006, a diesel-electric version completed the universal TRAXX locomotive portfolio, which is also available in AC, DC and multi-system configuration. This platform strategy which makes use of common components helps to create synergies to reduce purchasing, operating and maintenance costs."
"With the launch of the Hybrid AGC regional express train in 2007, Bombardier manifests that it also accepts the challenge of sustainable mobility. The dual-mode (electrical and diesel) and dual-voltage (1500 and 25000 V) technology in the Hybrid AGC enables customers to streamline vehicle management, enhance their service quality and protect the environment", he added.
Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognise companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance. Frost & Sullivan thus presents the 2008 Award for Company of the Year to Bombardier Transportation for its remarkable influence on the global rail market.
