Frost & Sullivan Product Innovation Award Recognizes Pioneering Role of Pleora Technologies in Bringing GigE to Machine Vision World

Palo Alto, Calif. — March 18, 2008 — Frost & Sullivan, the Global Consulting Company, today honored Pleora Technologies Inc, of Ottawa, Ontario, for its vanguard role in bringing GigE (Gigabit Ethernet)-based products to the machine vision market, awarding it the 2007 North American Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Innovation.

“Pleora’s iPORT™ family of GigE connectivity products broke new technological ground,” says Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Vishnu Sivadevan. “The company proved that machine vision applications – where performance and reliability is paramount – can use the economical GigE platform to transport video and imaging data in real time between cameras and PCs, eliminating the need for more costly specialized equipment. This Award is a validation of the technology risks Pleora took in carving out a place for GigE connectivity in high-performance vision applications”

Pleora's family of iPORT IP Engines use purpose-built hardware to convert video and imaging data to IP packets for distribution over Ethernet networks. The engines deliver unparalleled throughput in small foot-print, low-power packages and are bundled with comprehensive software libraries and powerful drivers.

Since Pleora’s first GigE-based products were introduced in 2002, Pleora has provided solutions for thousands of deployments in systems and cameras for applications under water, on land, in the air and even in outer space.

The small form-factor and high reliability of its iPORT solutions have driven their adoption into hundreds of camera models as well as directly in systems for medical imaging, quality inspection, traffic monitoring, military/homeland security, video transport and more. Pleora’s offerings for these applications include standard and custom boards, software and licensed solutions.

“Pleora’s IP engines leverage the inherent benefits of GigE, such as data transfer over long distances and advanced networking capabilities,” notes Sivadevan. “But the true benefit of Pleora’s offerings is its high-performance, end-to-end solution where all components work as an integrated whole. Pleora’s iPORT Connectivity Solution has made GigE-based high-performance solutions for machine vision practical, cost-effective, and easy to implement.”
