Palo Alto, Calif. — January 19, 2009 — Based on its recent analysis of the North American network security infrastructure protection market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes nexTier Networks, Inc. with the 2009 North American Frost & Sullivan Excellence in Technology of the Year Award for developing a path-breaking semantic intelligence-based Data Leak Prevention (DLP) technology that is capable of comprehensively monitoring and blocking unauthorized access to business-sensitive data in transmission.

nexTier' Semantic Firewall© technology offers robust resistance to commonly used evasion techniques such as rewording of content, regeneration, repositioning and even copy-paste functions of content. It can automatically discover data, no matter where it is located on the enterprise network, analyze the structure of the data to extract meaning, and then determine the data's security value.

This is enabled by the company's Information Enthalpy (IE)–Vector Encoding technology that consists of sophisticated algorithms, which analyze data to generate IE-Vector sequences that produce a unique sequence or signature called the Semantic DNA Sequence™ (not more than 1,000 bytes in size). These are unique to each document and enable automatic tracking, monitoring and access control of confidential data, thereby preventing data leaks. The Semantic DNA Sequence™ also helps detect evasion as it can be used to identify the source of data, even if it has been drastically rephrased or modified.

The most innovative aspect of the Semantic Firewall© is nexTier's proprietary Semantic-Security Correlation technology. Powered by the company's path-breaking Security-Semantic CORelation and indEXxing (S2 COREX™) algorithms, it enables the analysis of data in real-time based on the security value of data, with minimal or no human intervention required. Furthermore, it scales the accuracy and speed deficiencies of conventional DLP approaches and algorithms such as Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI).

nexTier's algorithms can classify and correlate unstructured, semi-structured and structured data based on certain defined factors. This approach delivers complete data security classification and defines specific domain knowledge and a semantic set of data that need to be secured. nexTier's technology also enables IT administrators to mold an ontology-base specific to organizational policies.
