Frost & Sullivan Select Trapeze Networks for Prestigious Industry Innovation & Advancement of the Year Award in the European WLAN Infrastructure Market

Trapeze Networks is the recipient of the 2007 Frost & Sullivan Industry Innovation & Advancement of the Year Award in the European WLAN infrastructure market. The award recognises the company’s best practices as a leading vendor in the WLAN infrastructure market and for offering the most advanced, enterprise-class WLAN roadmap in the industry.

Trapeze’s Smart Mobile Phase Two (building on the Smart Mobile vision delivered in 2006) supports the largest-scale enterprise wireless LAN deployments and mission-critical applications through a new generation of high-performance software and hardware.

“Advances here include the highest-performance WLAN controller – the Mobility Exchange® 2800 (MX®-2800), the industry’s first and only 28Gbps WLAN controller,” notes Frost & Sullivan Research Manager Sharifah Amirah. “It also offers the highest-performance 802.11n access point – the MP®-432, providing the industry’s smoothest, most cost-effective migration path to 802.11n.”

The MX-2800 is the highest-capacity controller announced by any WLAN vendor to date, providing 28Gbps of throughput via 2 10-Gigabit and 8 Gigabit ports. It supports 512 active access points (APs), as well as a total of 12,000 active client devices—such as laptops, Wi-Fi phones, active RFID tags, etc.—more than any other in the industry.

In response to Trapeze’s announcement of maintaining user’s investment in their existing WLAN controllers while upgrading to 802.11n, competitors have already responded with similar sounding initiatives.  However, these vendors require new architectures in order to support the new bandwidth required by 802.11n whereas Trapeze’s Mobility Domain architecture - the basis of the solution since 1.0 - remains a strong foundation for the company to continue launching new functionality at the lowest cost to its users.

“Smart Mobile Phase Two has also focused on achieving industry-leading wireless availability, reliability, and scalability through advanced enhancements to Trapeze’s Mobility System® Software (MSS®),” adds Ms. Amirah. “These enhancements deliver the industry’s only many-to-many redundancy, hitless failover, and zero down time in-service upgrades.”

Such developments enable all switches in the network to act collectively as a single virtual switch, thereby supporting the first and only always-on, non-stop WLAN. Moreover, MSS enhancements render failovers completely invisible to end users and occur so rapidly that no client connections, not even voice calls, are dropped. In addition, the network automatically balances AP-to-switch connections optimally, without any configuration or administrator effort, and with no interruption in service.

“Smart Mobile Phase Two once again puts Trapeze on the offensive, setting the industry agenda and forcing its competitors to respond,” concludes Ms. Amirah. “This is part of its total development strategy--demonstrating its strong commitment toward its customers under the Trapeze brand, and its OEM partners, to provide the best solutions in the industry.”
