Palo Alto, Calif., March 20, 2007 – Frost & Sullivan presents its 2006 Award for Technology Innovation to NeuStar in recognition of its SIP-IX service offering. SIP-IX is the first comprehensive service designed to enable direct network-to-network peering between carriers for voice, video and content services using Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)-based technologies such as IP multimedia (IMS) and ENUM. It builds on the broad experience NeuStar has gained over the past three years in the operation of private ENUM services for North American wireless operators.
Distinguishing features of SIP-IX include:
- Policy-enabled, private ENUM-based shared directory services. SIP-IX’s efficient open-standard design allows flexible interworking and reliable, low-latency setup of calls and sessions using both SIP and ENUM.
- Streamlined provisioning and Operational Support System services. SIP-IX enables operators to quickly launch new IP-based service offerings while utilizing existing provisioning processes and systems.
- Broad service availability. NeuStar’s partnerships with leading Internet Exchange Providers (IXPs) provide an unmatched level of service accessibility and reliability.
- Strong industry partner relationships. NeuStar works with leading product and service vendors to create additional value around SIP-IX's open standards design and interfaces. The NeuStar Industry Alliance includes leading infrastructure and technology providers.
As further testament to its strategic focus on IP-related initiatives and technologies, NeuStar acquired U.K.-based mobile instant messaging solutions provider Followap in November 2006. "We view the convergence of IP services in general, and Mobile IM in particular, as a global phenomenon of critical importance to our customers. With that in mind, both SIP-IX and our new Mobile IM capabilities are key initiatives for our company in 2007 and beyond," commented NeuStar’s Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Mark Foster. "We are very pleased that Frost & Sullivan recognizes the essential role NeuStar plays as a global leader in IP infrastructure standards and services."
"To compete, today’s network operators need to offer more than just voice, and they must continue their migration to a ‘pure IP’ infrastructure," added Dennis Brouwer, senior director of IP products and services at NeuStar. "As IP services grow in importance, operators need to leverage their existing IP network peering facility arrangements to originate, terminate and share sessions for all mobile, fixed and broadband communications. NeuStar’s SIP-IX service enables them to do exactly that – efficiently and effectively."
The Frost & Sullivan Award for Technology Innovation is presented annually to a company that has demonstrated technological superiority within its industry during the previous calendar year. The award recognizes the ability of the company to successfully develop and introduce new technology, formulate a well-designed product family and make significant product performance contributions to the industry.
