Frost & Sullivan Recognizes Cummins Power Generation for Leadership in Emissions Technology Industry
Date Published: 12 Sep 2006

Palo Alto, Calif. — September 12, 2006 — Frost & Sullivan selected Cummins Power Generation as the recipient of the 2006 North American Diesel Engine Technology Leadership of the Year Award in recognition of its impressive advancements and market leadership in emissions technology and its presence as a major environmentally minded market participant. Cummins Power Generation, a subsidiary of Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI), is a global leader in increasing the availability and reliability of environmentally responsible electric power around the world.

"Cummins Power Generation is eager to demonstrate its preparedness for the 2007 EPA emissions standards," says Frost & Sullivan energy analyst Devin Castleton. "The company boasts an approach to engine emissions reduction based not only on best-in-class technology and design, but also one that provides a product and cost to align with customer requirements whether the customer needs a first-fit, integrated design or needs to retrofit current equipment."

Cummins Power Generations emissions technology strategy is tightly integrated with its parent company, Cummins Inc. Cummins Inc. was the first engine manufacturer to certify engines compliant to the October 2002 emissions standards and all of its 2007 engines will be fully compliant with the new standards, running on the new ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel.

Cummins Inc.’s state-of-the-art in-cylinder technology solutions provide cleaner air by preventing the formation of most nitrogen oxides, particulate matter, hydrocarbons, and carbon monoxide in diesel engine emissions. When exhaust after-treatment is required, its comprehensive product line includes diesel oxidation catalysts, diesel particulate filters, low NOx catalysts and mobile SCR systems.

Cummins Inc. spends over half of its multi-billion dollar R&D budget on emissions related research, both on-highway and off-highway and has technology development plans in place to meet emissions regulations throughout 2015.

Cummins Power Generation has an engine development team that works closely with its parent company to develop market specific emissions technologies that allow it to optimize products around its customers’ performance needs. Cummins Power Generation also puts forth extensive efforts to train its employees and distributors on complying with new regulations. Its sales people take certification courses in new emissions regulations and technology so they can help customers select the best emissions compliant technology. Cummins Power Generation has also invested substantial resources into offering educational and informational materials for its customers as well.

Due to its status as a vertically integrated generator set OEM and market presence, Cummins Power Generation is able to capitalize on the vast scale of its parents expenditure and investment in emissions-focused R&D. Cummins Power Generation is consequently in an excellent position to stay ahead of the game in terms of emissions technology.

Its impressive collaborative approach to leverage its parents investment to develop market specific emissions technology and its leadership in educating its customers make Cummins Power Generation the deserving recipient of the 2006 Frost & Sullivan North America Diesel Engine Technology of the Year Award.

Each year Frost & Sullivan presents this Award to a company that has demonstrated excellence in technology leadership within their industry. The recipient company has demonstrated technology leadership by excelling in all stages of the technology life cycle—incubation, adaptation, take-up and maturity—to ensure a continuous flow of improvements. By innovating leading-edge concepts the company has pioneered client applications.
