The XAP in-memory computing platform and Cloudify cloud orchestration showcase GigaSpaces’ expertise in developing platforms that offer seamless scalability and near-zero downtime

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — October 5, 2015 — Based on its recent analysis of the cloud-based virtualization market in industrial automation, Frost & Sullivan recognizes GigaSpaces Technologies, Inc. with the 2015 Global Frost & Sullivan Award for New Product Innovation. GigaSpaces has leveraged its expertise across industries to create the XAP in-memory computing platform and Cloudify pure-play orchestration platform for deployment, management and scaling of multi-tier applications on the cloud.

XAP guarantees unparalleled performance by ensuring robust data management, efficient real-time event processing, extensive data storage capabilities, and high reliability in terms of data availability. Open source Cloudify automates the full lifecycle of applications in cloud environments, from pre-deployment, such as installation and configuration, through post-deployment, such as monitoring, self-healing and auto-scaling.

“Overall, GigaSpaces’ XAP in-memory computing platform and Cloudify orchestration have helped in the creation of a comprehensive ecosystem that not only resolves issues with expanded data storage, but also guarantees real-time data processing and high-availability of the processed data,” observed Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Shilpa Ramachandran. “In a marketplace where aforesaid factors are essential for successful Internet of Things deployment in industrial automation, GigaSpaces’ products are distinctly ahead of the competition due to their ability to provide best value for money.”

XAP is a comprehensive software platform based on in-memory data grid architecture with all the tiers in a single container. Such architecture aids consistent performance and simultaneously handles unprecedented volumes of data. While not only structured query language (NoSQL) and structured query language (SQL) compromise on data availability for higher performance and scalability, XAP delivers consistency by handling part of the data in memory and synchronizing the rest with regular data stream.

XAP’s caching mechanism plays a critical role in enhancing performance wherein, for the first time, the data is read directly from the database and then stored in a cache from where consequent processing happens. This speeds up the processing through fast data access and data availability, so that if a company loses its cache, it has to deal only with performance loss, not data loss. Its robust, real-time data replication mechanism between peer nodes in the data grid further improves data availability. The company employs Flash to store data, as it reduces storage cost by storing a greater volume of data than random access memory (RAM).

The company’s Cloudify orchestration platform also scores high on reliability. One of its differentiating features is the ability to ensure a deployed application’s availability and service level after deployment. It continuously monitors customer applications based on defined key performance indicators (KPIs). Its robust auto-healing technique is crucial in automatically fixing crashed middleware or lost virtual machines. It automatically scales customer applications based on these KPIs, providing consistent service levels to application users, even under escalating loads. It collects and aggregates application logs so that they are easily consumable and understandable to administrators.

Being standard-driven and therefore inherently infrastructure agnostic, Cloudify is uniquely positioned to fit into heterogeneous telco and enterprise environments by supporting any application stack, handling containerized and non-containerized workloads and integrating seamlessly with any DevOps-related tool chain. Cloudify is based on TOSCA, the Topology and Orchestration Specification for Cloud Applications from the OASIS Foundation. In using TOSCA as the standard templating language, Cloudify provides a single orchestration platform across cloud platforms, regardless of the cloud environment, virtualization approach and automation tool sets.

GigaSpaces’ Support Center, an important component of the extended services domain, plays a vital role in gathering customer feedback and developing dynamic solutions to address their needs. Through the XAP Self-Service Portal and the Cloudify Community, GigaSpaces encourages existing customers to report post-deployment technical issues to receive support and invites their suggestions for enhancements. The April 2015 roll out of the new XAP (v10.1) and Cloudify (3.2) is a testament to the company’s commitment to the customer’s satisfaction by addressing specific areas of unmet requirements.

In the industrial sector, GigaSpaces’ in-memory data grid and service-based architecture are highly useful in aiding superior resource utilization, hosting different topologies simultaneously on virtual-desktop bases and elevating the responsiveness and sophistication of solutions. XAP’s real-time analytics functionality helps perform complex calculations across large data sets with relatively inexpensive hardware. This is a crucial benefit in industries such as airlines, air freight and logistics, road and rail, transportation infrastructure, marine technology, aerospace manufacturing, chemicals, telecommunications, and energy.

Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has developed an innovative element in a product by leveraging leading-edge technologies. The award recognizes the value-added features/benefits of the product and the increased ROI it offers customers, which, in turn, increases customer acquisition and overall market penetration potential.

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis and extensive secondary research to identify best practices in the industry.
