Key Announcements Made – Agriculture & Foods
Announcement 1: Launch of PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana
The programme will cover 100 districts with low productivity, moderate crop intensity and below-average credit parameters to enhance agricultural productivity, adopt crop diversification and sustainable agriculture practices, augment post-harvest storage at the panchayat and block level, improve irrigation facilities, and facilitate availability of long-term and short-term credit.
Impact: Positive
The introduction of PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana is expected to have a significant impact to the agricultural landscape in India impacting lives of 17 million farmers. The program is also expected to have a positive impact on Agri inputs sector including seeds, agri warehousing, finance and agritech sector with improved access to agriculture technology, creation of market linkages and enhancing farmers income in India.
- Announcement 2: Launch of Rural Prosperity and Resilience Programme
The Rural Prosperity and Resilience Program will be launched in partnership with State Govt. to address underemployment in agriculture through skilling, investment, and technology adoption to strengthen the rural economy. The Phase one of the Programme Plans to cover 100 developing agri districts. The programme will focus on rural women, young farmers, rural 4 youth, marginal and small farmers, and landless families.
Impact: Positive
Being a comprehensive multi-sectoral programme, it is expected to boost rural employment generation, empower rural women and help in incorporation of Global and domestic best practices in the rural sector through assistance from Multilateral Agencies.
- Announcement 3: Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses & Programme on Vegetables & Fruits
Government will be implementing a six year “Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses” with a special focus on Tur, Urad and Masoor. In addition, a comprehensive programme to promote production, efficient supplies, processing, and remunerative prices for farmers will be launched in partnership with states will be launched.
Impact: Positive
These programmes are expected to reduce dependence on import of pulses in addition to leading to crop diversification and improved access to nutrition. This is also expected to create forward market linkages for farmers and FPOs thus facilitating self-sufficiency in pulses and crop diversification
- Announcement 4: National Mission on High Yielding Seeds
A National Mission on High Yielding Seeds will be launched, aimed at strengthening the research ecosystem, targeted development and propagation of seeds with high yield, pest resistance and climate resilience, and commercial availability of more than 100 seed varieties released since July 2024.
Impact – Positive
The launch of National Mission on HYV Seeds is expected to boost the domestic seed sector and facilitate adoption of HYV seeds and facilitate public and private sector investments in seeds.
Other Key Announcements
- Makhana Board will be established in the state of Bihar to improve production, processing, value addition, and marketing of makhana.
- Government will bring in an enabling framework for sustainable harnessing of fisheries from Indian Exclusive Economic Zone and High Seas
- Launch of ‘Mission for Cotton Productivity’ a 5-year mission to facilitate significant improvements in productivity and sustainability of cotton farming in India
- Facilitation of credit through Kisan Credit Cards (KCC), Modified Interest Subvention Scheme and support to NCDC
- New Fund of Funds for startups, with expanded scope and a fresh contribution of INR 100 Million expected to boost Agritech ecosystem.
